Seattle Clinical Research Center Welcomes Sara Mazzoni, MD, as Incoming Co-Medical Director

The Seattle Clinical Research Center (SCRC) is pleased to welcome Sara Mazzoni, MD, as the newest member of its team. Dr. Mazzoni will transition into the role of Co-Medical Director over the coming months, bringing extensive clinical leadership experience, a background in academic medicine, and a longstanding commitment to research and patient care.

A Pacific Northwest native, Dr. Mazzoni attended the University of Washington for both her undergraduate education and medical degree before completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado. She remained in Colorado for seven years following residency, earning a Master of Public Health and working at a county safety-net hospital. During this time, she also began her research career and served as co-chair of the Institutional Review Board’s Vulnerable Patients Panel.

Dr. Mazzoni subsequently joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she spent four years before returning to Seattle in 2020. She joined the University of Washington faculty at Harborview Medical Center, where she eventually served as Chief of Service for several years. After leaving UW in late 2025 to spend more time with her family, Dr. Mazzoni is excited to return to the research community through her new role at SCRC.

“I’m looking forward to joining the SCRC team and getting back into the research world,” said Dr. Mazzoni. “I’m excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to contribute to the team’s work.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mazzoni enjoys spending time with her husband and two teenage children, walking the family’s mini Bernedoodle, reading, hiking, and traveling. Recent adventures include a family trip to Italy and the French Alps, as well as a river rafting trip on Idaho’s Salmon River with her best friend. She also serves on the board of a nonprofit organization that delivers healthcare in Nicaragua and Peru, reflecting her continued commitment to improving access to care.

As she transitions into the Co-Medical Director role, Dr. Mazzoni will help support SCRC’s clinical and research activities, contributing her experience in clinical leadership, public health, and academic medicine.
